What is the PLAATO fermentation sensor?

Our PLAATO Fermentation sensors give you a fermentation monitoring system designed to help breweries achieve consistency, efficiency and quality. Our sensors measure density, temperature and fermentation progress in real time. They connect to PLAATO Insights, so you can constantly monitor your fermentation and take action when you need to.

How the PLAATO fermentation sensor works

The PLAATO Fermentation sensor uses tuning fork technology to measure density and temperature in real time. Made from 304 graded stainless steel, it ensures quality and durability while maintaining purity by only contacting the fermenting liquid.

The PLAATO Fermentation Sensor integrates effortlessly with fermenters using a 1.5” tri-clamp connection. Need to retain a sample port? Adapters and T-connectors are available to fit your setup. The sensor is CIP compatible, though many brewers opt to remove the sensor for cleaning.

Not over-engineered

Sensors with more measurement points often need more upkeep. Inline pH sensing is a good example: it has to stay wet at all times, so it can’t sit in an empty tank between batches, and it needs frequent recalibration. PLAATO monitors just density and temperature, the two numbers that actually show where a fermentation stands, which is why it’s genuinely CIP compatible: leave it in the tank between batches, no maintenance routine required.

No contamination risk

Threading creates crevices where residue and bacteria can collect. The PLAATO Fermentation Sensor has none: one continuous piece of 304 food-grade stainless steel, with nothing to loosen or trap residue.

Slim enough for the ports you already have

At 21mm, the PLAATO Fermentation Sensor fits standard sample ports without a retrofit, and it’s slim enough to pair with a T-connector so your sample tap can stay on the same port.

Fermentation sensors usually cost enough to limit you to a handful of priority tanks. PLAATO delivers the same core measurement quality at roughly a quarter of the price, making it realistic to instrument every fermenter instead of just a few.
