One industry. Full focus.
We only work with breweries and distilleries. Not manufacturing in general, not every industry, because that's what we actually know how to build for.
10 years in the world of brewing
PLAATO was founded in 2016 by two engineers who started the company with a Kickstarter campaign for a digital airlock, a small device that gave home brewers a simple way to track fermentation.
We quickly started adapting it for industrial use: could the same continuous, automatic fermentation data work in a real brewery, not just a home setup?
From the start, the goal was to replace manual checks and guesswork with continuous data, collected automatically, and put directly in front of the people running operations.
From fermentation to facility wide insights
In 2021, we launched the first version: a sensor built specifically for beer fermenters, priced so it actually made sense for a brewery to buy, plus a platform that turned raw fermentation data into something a brewer could actually use.
Since then, PLAATO's fermentation monitoring has been installed in more than 300 breweries across 38 countries.
Along the way we learned something important: breweries were collecting more data than ever, but none of it was connected.
“I have tons of data, but very little information.”

That gap is why we built PLAATO Insights, which launched in 2025. It took what we'd learned monitoring fermentation and extended it across the whole facility, bringing fermentation, process, quality, and utility data together in one place.
Why we only build for brewing and distilling
PLAATO works exclusively with breweries and distilleries. That's a deliberate choice, not a limitation.
We don't think building for every industry at once is the right way to do this. General tools built for “manufacturers” (or just built for everyone) help a little, everywhere. Building only for brewers and distillers means we actually understand their equipment, their daily problems, and what costs them time and product.
That's why operators pick it up faster, and why it starts paying off sooner.
